GWAR – Battle Maximus Review

Gwar - Battle Maximus

The intergalactic horde known as GWAR have returned to conquer the world with their newest release, Battle Maximus. As can be construed from the title, the album is partially a tribute to the memory of Flattus Maximus, also known as Cory Smoot, who passed away during a previous tour. The passing of Flattus Maximus left a black hole in the band, however it has been filled by Pustulus Maximus. This being the debut album for the new Gwar-tarist.

Any true GWAR slave will enjoy this new offering from the scumdogs of the universe. Not unlike previous releases from the band, Battle Maximus spins a sordid tale relating to the band’s exile to the blistering cold of Antarctica. It is the tale of one who has traveled through time and space to bring an end to the scumdogs of the universe and their assault on this toilet earth. Could this be the ragnarok for GWAR, or will they leave behind a bloody pit of horror?

Battle Maximus features 12 tracks of pure unalduterated madness as only GWAR can present. With the release of the new album, GWAR will be hitting the road with bands such as Hatebreed, Whitechapel, A Band of Orcs, and even Goatwhore. This is truly going to be a tour not to be missed. I have a feeling that Gwar will be chanting America must be destroyed while they are terrorizing fans across the country. Piuck up your copy of Battle Maximus beginning September 17, and catch GWAR on tour when they destroy your town.

The Beautifully Demolished

The Beautifully Demolished have recently released what can only be described as a 110% Rock N Roll Thrill Ride of an EP. If you are unfamiliar with The Beautifully Demolished, you’re going to want to remember their name, as they are destined to be a break out sensation in the world of rock. This holds especially true for those who are fans of the music from the 1970’s and 80’s. An era when music was dominated by the music, and not the hype.

The EP kicks off with the self titled track, Beautifully Demolished. It is an anthem that any listener is sure to begin singing along with in no time. I was reminded of what is probably the most well known anthem of all time as I listened to it. If that one needs explaining, then I definitely suggest everyone listen to it, and decide for yourselves what song it compares to.

The second track on the EP is titled Heart Tattoo, and is very easy to get lost in while listening. While it has a ballad feel to it, but it also has the appeal of a bluesy southern rock sound. Of all of the songs on the EP, I expect Heart Tattoo to be the song that will appeal to the broadest audience. The band have a definite hit on their hands with this one.

The third and final track on the EP is titled Rock Scars. The track features some great guitar riffs and an energy that a lot of music seems to be missing in this day and age. It’s the type of song that makes a person want to get up and dance. It’s an all around good time rock n roll song. Whether you’re with friends around a campfire or cruising down the road, Rock Scars is a song that is easily enjoyed by all.

After hearing this EP, I find myself with unbridled anticipation of what can be expected when a full length release is available. Members of the band, D.K. Revelle, Robbi Black, Jamie Moreno, Jimmy Minj, and Finn Zevo have come together to make what could possibly be the greatest rock band in recent years. They have each been featured in various media outlets, and definitely know how to make kick ass music.
